Bottom bracket questions

I've got an FSA Gossamer crankset that came with megaexo bottom bracket, that I'm planning to fit to a frame with a 68mm shell. Some stuff I've read on the web suggests I will need to fit spacers, but spacers aren't mentioned in the destructions that came with the crankset and none came with it.

Can anyone confirm that I won't need to fit any spacers? I don't have the frame yet but I want to be ready to go when it arrives.

Also, some people advise greasing the BB threads or putting anti-seize on them, but the BB came with a ring of some kind of threadlock already applied half way along the threads. I would have thought that grease or anti-seize would stop the threadlock working?

Thanks as always for any help

Basically it works like this.

Road bikes have a BB shell of 68mm. Other bikes may have a 73mm BB.

They make two types of chainset - one for each. The axle on the 73 is slightly longer.

So ideally for a road bike you need a chainset for a 68mm shell and insert the mega exo BB without spacers.

The complications arise when you have a chainset for a 73mm BB on a 68mm bike. In this case you use the same BB but with spacers.

So in your case if the current bike has a 68mm shell and no spacers then the chainset is for 68mm shells so it is a straight transfer to the new bike with no spacers.

As regards the grease - there are two schools of thought. One - put grease on the threads so that it doesn't seize and is therefore easy to take off when it needs replacing. Two- put threadlock on so it doesn't unscrew during use. I run Campagnolo and that needs threadlock to stay put so I use that and then undo it every 6 months to keep it free from seizing.
