The nut and whaser method will work but don't underestimate how tight these can be.

When I removed the one on my Raleigh Twenty I broke the first 14mm bolt I tried, bought a quality steel 5/8" bolt and accompanying washers, broke a Chrome Vanadium socket, rounding the bolt head in process and had to resort a huge Stiltson wrench with about a 5 foot bar over the handle and when it went, it had such a loud crack I was convinced I had broken the frame.

After that initial crack it unscrewed by hand:rolleyes:

i don't fancy an adjustable on there even bolted down.
My plan is to make a wrench out of two short pieces of 50*5 mm flat bar welded 1.5" apart onto a long piece of of box section with a hole drilled through to bolt it to the cup.

I did it.
Made my own bearing cup removal tool.
Not pretty, but worked a treat:
