Hello
I'm going to be staying in Bourton on the Water this weekend for at least 2 days cycling.
I'm looking for suggestions on road rides. I could plot some out myself on mapmyride, but local knowledge is preferred.
Has anyone got some routes or roads they've done or would recommend? Between 30 to 60 miles starting and stopping in Bourton on the Water?

Thanks in advance

Here's one you'll like:

https://www.strava.com/routes/8085344 (anti-clockwise)

It cobbles together a few bits and pieces I have done on a variety of local audaxes over the years ... bits of the Coln Valley and Bibury, and the Windrush Valley and Burford. The right turn just after you come out of Burford (perhaps half a mile after the lamb Inn, no more than that) is easy to miss, but it's a great little road to Little Barrington (which is a nice riverside pub to stop at for a pint on your way). In fact it might be worth carrying on further along the Windrush Valley through the villages of Windrush and Sherborne before heading back via Clapton on the Hill. It is a fairly hilly route, but worth the effort. Slightly further afield, the village of Minster Lovell (beyond Burford, near Witney) is very quaint (loads of thatched cottages).

If you want to go a bit further afield, you could do worse than to head further to the North West and follow the lovely Coln Valley from Yanworth to Withington through Chedworth Woods and loop your way back..... but please make sure you avoid the A429. Not only is it full of fast traffic, but there are lots of invisible dips, and it's a horrible road to cycle on.

Enjoy!

Thank you, that route looks great, lots of little towns, so we might do that one on Saturday. The weather is forecast wet, so some cup of tea stops are always a good plan!

I'll have a look at your other suggestion on Saturday night

How did you get on, @Schneil ? Hope you enjoyed it.
Hello Donger

Yes I did, lots of little lanes and hills to go explore
We cycled for the full 3 days:
https://www.strava.com/activities/923582843 Day 1
https://www.strava.com/activities/925366996 Day 2
https://www.strava.com/activities/927633028 Day 3

In day 1 I used the route you kindly plotted, apart from a slight hiccup leaving Burford. A great route with lots of lanes. We appreciated going through Northleach and Burford as it gave us two rest stops

The other two days we did some OS mapping and went North West out of B-o-W and went to Winchcombe and Snowshill.
Great scenery (we were very liucky with the weather) and a good getaway

thankyou again
