I very rarely take kindly to the facilities I use reducing in size and quality.

Currently I have a full lane (It's called the road). Now they are building a segregated bicycle lane which looks about a 1/4 smaller. Later this cycle lane looks to go to single file.

I so rarely have problems along Stratford High Street that I personally don’t want anything to change. Well actually, maybe they could revert back to having the left lane purely for buses, taxis and cyclists? (They would be much better to segregate at the Ferodo Bridge, where there are real road space issues).
My big worry is that cyclists like me (i.e. 20-25mphers) will not be able to use the new facility because we will be travelling too fast for fellow cyclists, without enough space to overtake safely. Also, there will be no easy access to the flyover (I, for one, do not want to use Bow Roundabout every day). But. if we use the road we will be mixing with 30mph traffic. Usually this wouldn’t be a problem, except with a segregated cycle path next to us we’re going to get the inevitable ‘stop slowing us down, use the cycle path’ comments…..cue (or queue :P) lots of angry comments at the next set of lights as I lose my cool.
I guess you can’t please everyone, indeed you’re lucky to please anyone.

Is this the Feredo Bridge you are talking of?

Normally the problem I have is after the Bow Flyover heading towards Stratford and the set of lights which results into a two lane pinch point.Crap as well when the lights are red.

Yep, that's the one.

I'd prefer there to be no blue paint on the approach- it gives the impression there is space for a bike and a car, and there's certainly not. If they're going to put silly blue paint in places like this it should be down the middle of the lane IMO.

(Video evidence, with British weather thrown in for free :P *

As far as I can see cycling facilities are generally built where there is already space which in my opinion often leads to a wasted facility that is not needed and doesn't make the road any safer.

Ha! Used to that and the poxy drain also, but it's been like that in the 37 years I have been cycling down there.AFAIR.

The infrastructure isn't the problem, the driving there is.IMHO

Oh yeah,we didn't have cycle lanes also.

I guess the point is the 'cycle lanes' that have been added serve no substantial purposes other than a direction in to central london.

I'd agree. The standard of cycling and driving and the attitudes of all road users is the problem.

Never noticed "Feredo" before.I always look on Mile End to Leytonstone as a change in driving. Not for the better either.
Take the RAB as you would do in a car and you'll be fine.
I haven't got a car.

flyover for me too. used the RAB once or twice and on one occasion there was a sign annouincing the closure of the A12 in the segregated lane. the fat whanquere working for ringway was disinterested in the rules set down in chapter 8.

the next time i was almost left hooked by a MGP muppet.

the "superhighway" from bow to mile end is gash. the manholes and utility access covers are sunk below the surface by 20mm so you need to ride in the lane and that opens you to abusefrom plonkers who know nothing about riding or indeed driving safely .

I may go back to using the canal towpath, but with winter coming its a little hairy in the ice ;)

I used to use the towpath regularly, but in the summer it is slow - even for me - and in the winter I didn't really think cycling in the dark right next to water on an unlit towpath in varying states of repair was a particularly good idea.

I use the roundabout about 50% of the time as I hate the flyover eastbound at the incoming slip road. I have had more difficulties with drivers here than on the roundabout.

And CS2 is a disgrace.

did u used to be called miguel inderain on here ?

Blast.Sunk.I needed a rest from on here, say six months.

Im not sure what is a dsgrace? The CS2 or the standard of driving. On a side note, does anyone know how to use indicators any more? It's no good signalling one millisecond before you do the manouvre.

Maybe I should learn to read the forum before I start a new post... I've just had a good old rant about CS2, at Bow I elected to use the flyover, got left hooked at the entry (despite a strong primary) but still looked better than the roundabout.
