I keep all my shoe boxes.
Shoe boxes are good for old cables eg audio phono cables, speaker cable, spare computer mains cables, TV/satellite signal aerial cables, old ADSL routers, etc.

I keep all my shoe boxes. I used to put the summer shoes away in their box till the following summer and likewise with the winter shoes and boots. Now I'm not so tidy and just keep 'unseasonal footwear on the floor with the in season ones. I won't bin the boxes as they are always there just in case and some decent shoe boxes can go for 10, 15 quid on fleabay etc. As for the boxes that came with clothes, If the item was expensive it usually means it'll be a nicely made box so I'll keep it, just in case I ever sell the clothing item. I also keep electrical item boxes, just in case the item defaults and has to go back to the seller. So yes, I have quite a few boxes around my flat!😉

I save my hat boxes as well. They are far too good to throw away, even if they are just here collecting dust.😏 You can buy Christie round, not square hat boxes for about £40, so the Bates ones might be worth a fair bit if sold online.

Any large boxes get kept until the next Autumn/Winter, when they get put over the top of the vegetable beds.

Medium sized boxes will be kept if they are a useful size & strength for keeping things in. Otherwise they go in the cardboard recycling, as do smaller boxes.

I've got a cat food box for those!

Yup. Those of us with cats get a good supply of useful small boxes. I find the 12 pouch size great for small parcels when sending gifts etc, so I keep a stashette of those in my utility room. TBH, any good (reusable) packaging gets kept. And re-used. Stuff from purchased goods gets hung on to - either for use as packaging or at least until the warranty has run out.

The big boxes from Zooplus make good log stores in the garage. Once they get too knackered, they get dismantled and then used to light the fire.

Will confess that I actively search out the good green cardboard trays in Tesco (both full and half sized) as they are stackable and great for fruit & veg storage. The smaller ones I use to store my preserves. The bigger trays do have a tendency to buckle after a while, but then they get dismantled and used in the same way as the Zooplus boxes.

They go a stage further here - any newly bought appliance to gadget has its stickers left on, I think to show off how 'new' it is, and can remain there for several years.

I've also seen clunker bikes here bought from supermarkets, with the bubble wrap still clinging to the frame, and sometimes dangling off with age and use.

As for boxes, yep, definitely need a clearout here - I'll do it tomorrow

Go on. Admit it. Who out there is a Box Keeper?

You know, when you buy something new, you keep the box and packaging "just in case"
I have to admit that I am. I have so many boxes of things I probably no longer have or even remember having.
Having a rather large clear out of the loft of slightly damp cardboard. No more room left in our recycling bag this week. it's chocker.

So what boxes do you keep things for, and why?

Yes, for certain things, usually high value tech stuff. Three reasons for me:

If it need returning for repair or similar I've got proper packaging

If selling I can offer original packaging

It's handy way to keep all the left over fittings etc together

I used to but no longer.
Spent 23 years in engineering stores and purchasing, so had mountains of parts and goods incoming and inevitably had stuff to send out and return. My old boss used to lightheartedly mock me for the wide range of used boxes and packaging I used to keep...but there was nothing worse than trying to pack something without the packaging
Once I went on the tools 20+ years ago, i stopped almost immediately.
Everything goes in the recycling now.

My wife bought me a Mont Blanc fountain pen which is engraved with my name a good few years ago. Since I was never going to sell it, I put the box and leaflets etc. on the bay with a £1 starting price. £35 + postage for an empty box! 💷💷💷

That's not a bad idea for some of my camera equipment boxes. Got a fair few classic Nikon boxes. I bet a tenner a box is more the any uplift if I sell the lens or accessory with a box
