Why do some people feel the need to race on the commute on the Uxbridge Road?

It doesn't increase your sexual allure; you box in other people when getting to the front; you pass people so close you nearly take them off; more importantly, when I pass you half a mile later you look exhausted.

It's not a race, get a grip and grow some testicles so you don't have to act like a dick to feel like a man.

Wow, that's a real Freudian paradise! Sexual allure, testicles, dick....

Dunno is my answer. I guess it's what some folk do, they're just competitive. Not necessarily to beat you, but just to be fast or faster than yesterday. It's not just blokes either. I've no problem with the commuter rally, so long as it doesn't endanger me or others.

There must be some genuine people who use their commute as a 'training' ride.
It is an ideal opportunity all said and done.
What you perceive as 'racing' is perhaps just higher amounts of exertion for a given period.
If you re take them, perhaps they are on recovery..? I don't know.
I agree fully with manners on the road.. anyone on the road.. there should be no need to upset people on their own way either.
I uphold anyone's right to actually ride and ride quickly and not bimble at 15 mph however.

I ride reasonably quickly and have no problems with others who ride faster. What I object to is the aggressive tactics to get ahead, dangerously close passing and nob-like behaviour.

I race on my commute because I enjoy it. I have no sexual allure, regardless, so that's not an issue; I don't box anyone in or pass close; and if I passed you on the Uxbridge Road I can assure you that would be the last you'd see of me.

Please don't tar us all with the same brush. It's not nice and it's not clever. Oh, and my gonads are in splendid nick, thanks.

I presume you give the verbals at every opportunity?

Apart from training up to Cat 1 level yourself to avoid wannabe commuter racing nobs having any chance, I dont think the problem will go away sadly.

I rarely give verbals to the people who do it, I just try and get out of their way. As I said, I would love to go super fast and am working on it (very gradually) but the aggression is what bores me about it all. A lot of the time they're racing each other, not me, but are taking up the whole bus lane to do so and are watching each other instead of the road.
