I'm not the only "Downfader" online tbh. There were a couple of others after I thought up the name that seemed to pop up. I also know that my real name is pretty damn common. The copper I spoke to last year said there were 53 others in my city, and I know one is doing time for killing a lad on a scooter....

One of my workmates has the same name as a famous rapist. Works wonders for his lovelife... though he's older than the famous rapist it still causes him a few frowns. ;)

Its amazing what you can find out on the web, but also how many people also fit your own "profile" when you search

I took this as a slight challenge to make the point over the information you are leaving behind when you go on forums.

All the information was gleaned in a few minutes from this site. I could have also published personal photos and a website.

35 years old, lives in Bournemouth and married for 3 years.

Wife has a Toyota Celica - registration L100PYX.

Also owns a couple of Horses and would like to live in the Country. One horse is called Finley:

Choose a member of this forum and do a search... you can find out an awful lot about someone.

Combine that with the facility to access your clipboard whilst you are online (Have you copied and pasted your address or credit card details), or do you really want the hostile trolls with your home details?

I chose one member of this forum and now have his real name, profile details on SKy user, London Fixed Gear Forum, amongst others, I know where they work and also Blogger. I have a photograph and know roughly where he lives from some routes on Bikely.

To me it is a simple precaution - If I pm I use my personal details, and when I meet other forummers I also tend to use my real name.


PS I am not a stalker, I just wanted to show what could be done.

I also though you wouldn't mind.... and were a good example as to why it may not be a good idea to be too informative.... You had some unpleasant "fans" and I doubt you would want some of them having too many personal details


People are not aware just how much you leave behind.

The reason I knew it was me is because I am acutely aware of the information about me that is available on the internet. I gave up my anonymity a good few years ago when some of my campaigning was publicised in a local paper and on the Scottish news.

As a police officer once said to me, 'Yer no Martin Luther King'. There are a lot of internet hard men out there, but very few real hard men.
