Did he receive the message?

I suppose he must have done. He never seemed to get any older, I've moved away twice but on return he'd soon pop up looking just the same, though I suppose you would, always wearing a brown cotton smock and sandals.

Social media has now got in on the act, calls for central statue and a rap dedicated to him..............

AFAIK all he did was walk, smile and wave, yet that had a huge and disproportionately positive affect on 100's of 1000's of people, incredible.

When I first moved into Leeds in the mid 1970's I saw him a number of times walking on Otley Road, in Kirkstall, and on the Ring Road.
Always smiling and giving a cheery wave to cars that tooted him.

RIP

Brilliant. Sounds like an eccentric who'll be much missed by the local community.

"Very kind, gentle and friendly. Can't think of anyone who's got a bad word to say about him. RIP in heaven" - Mohammed Imran

Great pic of Geoffrey at his cave in 1960, prior he was an engineer at International Harvesters which was on the site of the old Jowett car factory.

However, most locals will remember him like this.

Always remember him being put off the train at the Interchange, only for the driver swapping ends, telling him to get back on and ignore anything said. Driver even apologised to him. Words were exchanged between driver & conductor/guard
