I cycled a road today that was surface dressed in this way with chippings.
It was just horrible. There were large dunes of chippings at the side of the road and in the middle, as the car tyres had pushed them out of the way, so the only "safe" place to cycle was right in the left hand groove left by the car tyres. Didn't give me much margin for error. If I had had to swerve suddenly I have no doubt that I would have crashed.

SCC surface dressed a road I use outside Leatherhead last week, I think. This morning it was all looking quite good, with the white lines repainted and very little loose material, so there's a chance the Headley road may be settled down for next weekend.

I think surface dressing must be the best way of quickly removing skin from a cyclist known to man.

Our road used to be nice and smooth and the kids would slide a bit and end up with a minor scab, now it's deep cuts, scars and stiches.

I would hate to come off at speed on the stuff but exercise caution when the road becomes a battleship grey colour.

My wife had an off this morning. Lost the front end on a bend that was covered in gravel.

I feel bad because I went through first, but having seen how bad it was, I had taken a line to avoid the worst of it. I should have warned her. I just assumed she'd seen it, and had seen the abnormal line I'd taken.

She's fine; cuts and grazes, and a nasty little gouge taken from her elbow, but fortunately nothing worse.

I was on a ride a couple of weeks ago going at a fair lick for me and i came up to a left hand turn i wanted to take, all was clear and safe for me to smoothly slide around the corner and Woah !! WTF. I managed to stop, thankfully was not clipped in, and turn around. It was horrid.
