The problem with rear lights is that it is not always possible to view the rear lights whilst simulataneously keeping ones foot on the brake pedal.

Just reverse up to a wall, or if you have one, your garage door. Apply the brakes and look in the mirror, you should be able to tell if the bulbs are working.

The more dead brake lights the better, as far as I'm concerned, provided they're of the eye-level stupid-bright kind popular these days that make it damn nigh impossible to see anything else when the driver in the queue in front can't be arsed to put the handbrake on.

I would be very happy if it became law that high-level (anything above the numberplate) brake lights would only be activated while the vehicle is in motion

One of the headlight bulbs have failed on my car. A Citroen c3

If anyone would like to change me the bulb then I would be very greatfull because I can't do it and nor can Halfords.
As the local Citroen dealer want nearly £100 to do it i'm just going to wait until the car needs an MOT or both bulbs have gone.

The headlight bulbs in my car are easy (if a little dangerous) to change - however at over £100 per bulb for dipped beam I hope they don't fail.

As someone said up thread, the price of owning your luxury item (a car) is maintaining it. You should perhaps have investigated the cost of routine maintenance when assessing which luxury item to buy

Im wondering why cars have yet to catch up with bikes and buses in this regard and use led brake illumination instead.

Very common already for the 3rd/high level brake lights.

Other than that you see them mostly as side lights on Audis and Beamers atm.

You can by replacement LED bulbs that will fit regular holders.

Sadly that argument would never work with the Police. Part of owning the car - but sadly for a lot of people not part of choosing a car, granted its not easy to see what the running costs/servicing cots of a car is in advance.

Easy way is though - if its new, its going to cost you more than an older car.

Stupid modern cars.
