Monty - I try to be helpful, but this 'fire and forget' undermines my motivation so to be.
What's your view on whether mechanical disc brakes are pants? Add value.
I am about to move from rim brakes to mechanical discs. This will allow me to stay with my cheap and effective STIs as opposed to hydraulic STIs ?3x as expensive. To mitigate the risk of inadequate performance/adjustment difficulty, I have TRP Spyres to fit.

What I'd be intrigued to know, so I can spot the John Notts who might be here today and be 'gone' by tomorrow (1982 reference), is how you identified them as a "shoot and run " new member so swiftly?
Three weeks on, Pat's 'back burner' must surely be out of fuel.

I have trp spyres in my road bike, and I am happy with them. The main issue is fit, the rear one is very close to the spokes, as the body is quite wide.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.

Or a self-fulfilling prophecy? I mean, after a welcome like that would you log in again?

These Avid mechanical on my MTB....

They work much better than the full hydraulics on my hybrid....

Although it has to be said that both work well. Any contamination of pads will cause havoc with braking performance no matter what kind of brakes.

The Avids do have to be set up correctly. Slacken off outboard pad first then adjust inboard pad until just clear of the disc. Then adjust outboard pad until just clear of disc. Make sure cable has correct adjustment, and they "should" work properly. Oh, and use compressionless cable outers...
