Have you ever seen the standard of driving and roads in Russia?

I've been in active war zones where I felt safer...

No, I've never been to Russia. I take it that it is quite unusual, or reckless to cycle in that country.

I've not travelled as extensively in Russia as @Fab Foodie has but in my experience it is rare to see cyclists - particularly in large towns or cities.

Having said that.... just a few minutes ago....

As @User states, roads are poor, driving variable and cyclists rare. You have to be a bit crazy or brave to cycke over here. That’s a very nice road bike, the guy looks fit, to be a hardened roadie here takes some balls...

That first guy is dead-hard. Putinski may ride bears without a shirt on, but that roadie eats bears alive for breakfast.... I bet he even owns a shopper ;-)
