Think of changing pads as a bit worn and about 5 years old. Think the ones in are r55c4. Are there any food alternative to these or is it best to stick with like for like

If you have had those for 5 years stick with them. I always found Shimano to be good pads.
Have you had any braking issues in those years ? Presumably not or you would have changed them already ?

Theres always more options out there - but Shimano seem to nail it for power vs longevity.
You could get a softer brake that would give you more power stopping - but it might not last a year.
