Folks,

Can you make some suggestions as to my best breakfast regime for my daily commute....???

I rise at 5.30 hrs each morning and cycle 9 miles into work after a drive of about 18 miles.

I tend to ride empty and grab breakie once I reach work, after a shower...

...should I be doing this, or should I fill up prior to my ride....???

Dougie.

I'm similar, i get up at 05:45, 4 miles ride to station, 40 minute train journey then 10 mile ride to work. I normally have 2 cups of coffee before i leave the house, 1/2 litre of Ribena and a banana on the train. Once in the office and showered a bowl of porridge or cornflakes then sandwich or soup for lunch and snack on fruit or biscuits through the day and another banana 1/2 an hour before i leave the office.
If you're not struggling without eating i wouldn't worry about it; i've been doing the same for three years without any problems.

10 miles ish for me too.

To be honest, fuelling up on breakfast beforehand doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference for me.

What I do notice though, is that I'm always hungry after my ride, even if I eat a little beforehand. Therefore I always scoff my breakfast down
after the ride, and usually just have some water or orange juice during the ride in.

Before and after !

I have a small bowl of porridge / some toast then have a cereal bar when i arrive,The job i am currently doing is manual and involves moving some very heavy parts .
I have tried having nothing when i get to work but i end up raiding the snack machine !

Cup of coffee for me and then ride. Shower and breakfast at work.

My body has enough fuel from the previous evening's supper for a 12 mile commute.

Once, tried eating before commute and felt like vomiting up the hills.

Nothing before hand for me, just over 9 miles, I have a brew and a piece of fruit or 2 when I get there at 5.30am.
Like above, I eat enough the night before to easily last me

I try and get a bowl down me, but it never really works out... I try at least to get something in before I return home (I only do half a day so don't bother waiting around for a "lunch break").

If you're not suffering from a lack of energy when you get into work, and if you can get a satisfying breakfast at or near your workplace, I really wouldn't worry at all. After all, food tastes so much better when you've worked up an appetite. And really enjoying your food should be one of the pleasurable side-effects of cycling.

Agreed. For the record I have my cereal before the commute (about 6:30 am). If I make sandwiches for "lunch" these are usually eaten before 10am.

I am usually fueled up on a bowl of whatever cereal is in the cupboard at the time (Cheerios ATM) with a good glug of water to keep me hydrated and keep me a little bit fuller. I have a banana mid morning with a cup of tea, sandwiches at around 1-ish and a second banana just before I set off home at 5:15.

I have a milky coffee as soon as I get to work (9:10am), then I do my bit to keep the catering department's sales up with my daily feta and spinach pastry (10:30am). I can't imagine eating before a commute. That would require me to wake up more than 2 minutes before getting on the bike... ;)
