The body HAS TO HAVE some carbohydrate. The nervous system can only burn carbohydrate. So if you are not eating it, it has to come from somewhere. Where? Well you body takes muscles, breaks them down into proteins, and converts the proteins to carbohydrates.
So if your diet is overly carbohydrate restricted, you will lose muscle mass. In facts, in many if not most diets, people lose 1 lb of muscle for every lb of fat lost. People who exercise quite a bit and who eat enough carbohydrate can actually gain muscle mass whilst losing fat However, on most fast weight loss diets, I bet that nearly all the weight lost is muscle. Fat is 3500 calories per pound and it takes a sedentary person days to burn off a lb of fat so losing weight by losing fat is just not feasible quickly unless you are exercising quite a bit.

bowl of cereal for breakfast about 20-30 minutes before I leave for work . lasts me till lunchtime where I have a balanced meal .

lettuce cucumber, tomato . some cheese and chicken slices. meets the requirements for all major food groups.

tea when i get home is again na balanced meal.

lost 3 stone 20Kg since september, 6 inches off waist and increased thigh bicep muscle mass. swimmming 1 hour a week on a wednesday cycling 7 miles a day and walking about 6 miles a day in work is all the exercise i get.

I worked out i consume about 1800 balanced calories and burn about 2500 a day

Hmm, is that correct?

Doesn't the fat/carbo burn depend upon the intensity of exercise and closely related to your heart's bpm?

IIRC there are 3 zones

zone 1. fat burn. Usually somewhere between 120-150bpm dependent upon age
zone 2. aerobic. 150-160bpm ish. Burn carbs
zone 3. anaerobic. Above 160 Amount of exercise done in thsi zone is reliant on level of oxygen in the blood

There should be a zone 0. Lazy fecker.

its more the burning of muscle i want to avoid. hence the need for protein and carbs. the body needs a kick of carbs in the mrning for lots of reasons. slow release is soooo much better though. keeps the mind alert

Every day is Porridge with honey and banana.

I have a 13 mile commute and play football at lunchtimes. Porridge is the only thing that gives me enough energy to do both - then I have lunch!

Although sometimes my body goes off porridge and getting it down my throat takes forever. I usually switch to Weetabix if that happens.

Only 8 miles for me so no breakfast beforehand (it's never going to be more than 30 minutes on the bike which is probably akin to walking less than a mile!) and a banana or toast at work sees me through to lunch quite nicely.

Is this correct? I've often wondered.
I think the weight loss is more to do with the exercise speeding up the metabolism. I am feeling a lot hotter all the time since I started cycle commuting, and the wife says I'm like a bl**dy furnace at night. (YMMV).

(Just realised the opening I left for a wise crack there.)
