Don't ask for the 'special' meat platter.

Those aren't his boots. We didn't burn him.

It's not funny when you are experiencing a Royston Vasey moment for real....

I'll never forget my 30 seconds of silent screaming in the Black Venus on Exmoor on a misty bat swooping evening until sanity hove into view....

Wild camping in the possible presence of the Exmoor Beast was a preferable activity for a while but the story is best told live.

Sounds intriguing. Fancy meeting up for a pint over half term?

Only just spotted this before going to bed ... You could try Watergate cafe on Bridge Gate (just up the pedestrianised area from the main traffic lights).
Excellent recommendation, thank you.. They took five of us, sh1tten up to the eyeballs after a very blashy towpath ride with some cheeky singletrack thrown in, and served a superb full breakfast including juice tea and toast.

It was Monday morning German day in the upstairs room (it's a language cafe) and the table of clearly retired Germanists were in full flow. Great fun, with the usual Hebden Bridge side-order of surrealism. ^_^

Phew! I thought about it afterwards, and worried that they might object to muddy bums on seats ...

I normally go there spring to autumn. They have a yard out the back with tables & chairs in, but I imagine that doesn't get used in winter. It's good if you are on bikes, because you can keep an eye on them. Just watch out for birds crapping on you from the trees, and the odd cheeky one which tries to pinch stuff off your plate!

I forgot that they have that German group. My stepdaughter did German at university so we borrowed a few books from them.
