Maybe the "empty" stomach thing is the key? I am not usually hungry within 2 of waking unless I ate very little the day before or have had a lay in. Some people are hungry as soon as they are awake and would need to eat even if they were not about to exercise.

I get the knock after about half an hour if I haven't eaten breakfast. I usually have a bowl of cereal or toast & honey.

And tea. Always tea.

Two weetabix with some raisins and milk, juice and coffee, or porridge (cold, with raspberries or hot with honey), before my 8 mile commute. If I have the weetabix option, then I'm hungry again by 10am.

I used to be the same with Weetabix. Then one morning I decided to double-up and it made a massive difference. Can last a good 4/5 hours after 4 biscuits now.

I think you may have it there.

I usually wake up an hour before I leave for my 30min/8mile commute.

If I havnt eaten much for dinner the night before, I can be very hungry. Stomach growling. If thats the case I will eat something. However, usually Ive had a decent evening meal and dont get that feeling until I arrive at work.

So usually just a cup of coffee as soon as I get up and half a pint of water just before I leave.

some mad breakfasts in there

bowl of cornflakes for me

I've always thought people eating their cereal at their desk are taking the piss, one away from turning up in their dressing gown and then having a shower/shave/teeth/etc

Will give that a go, thanks!

I have breakfast when I get to work. More often than not it's porridge although a cheeky bacon butty is an occasional treat. Eating breakfast after cycling reduces the munchies I find, although I'll have fruit during the course of the morning as well usually.

I can't start the day empty, need my bowl of porridge with dried mixed fruit and crushed nuts, no breakfast screws me for the day.

It also depends on what sort of job you have , if you have a fairly sedentary desk job then maybe you can get away with a lower calorie start to the day but i find if i do not have breakfast and a snack bar when i arrive then my blood sugar takes a dive before break time .

Breakfast is normally at 5.30 am and is either porridge or 2 pieces of toast+ cuppa
10 mile commute
get to work and i have a small supermarket brand cereal bar +cuppa at 6.45 am approx
Next break is 9.45 am
normally 1 sandwich+cuppa

I do not have the most physical job at our workplace but i can be pulling dollies full of metal panels and decanting metal car parts onto stands, now if i was standing on the same spot welding gun ( they have to be counter balanced ) all day i would know about it .

I'm doing a manual job, not as manual as some I've done in the past, order picker in a warehouse, I've always done manual work. It doesn't mater how big an evening meal I have I will still be hungry when I wake up in the morning, if I don't eat breakfast I'm flat both physically and mentally till I've had a good meal. Over the last few weeks I've been trying to shift some of the flab that's crept on over the past few years, because I've cut down what I'm eating I've found myself awake 5 - 5:30 in the morning because I'm hungry, I don't start work till 10 and would lie in a bit longer if I could.
