What do people have for breakfast before setting out? I quite often find that I run out of time (and never feel all that hungry first thing in the morning anyway) but get a bit lagged out around halfway through the commute.

At the moment all I have is a cup of tea.

I have about half an hour between getting up and departing - and yes I may have to get up earlier - but what do other folks do? Spark some inspiration bulbs in this old head people!

A banana usually sits well with me in the morning.....

Oh right no innuendo.

If it's for less than two hours, I just have my normal breakfast (eaten about 45 mins before I leave) of muesli, bran flakes and milk, and take a banana in my back pocket, plus two water bottles.

If it's for longer, then a bowl of porridge, then my muesli, bran flakes and milk. Then I'd take a couple of bananas and some energy bars, but would call into a caf or petrol station for a cuppa and piece of cake or choccy bar.

Cycling on a full stomach isn't to be recommended.

Nothing on weekdays, prior to leaving the house... Golden syrup flavoured porridge when I arrive at work!

This morning I had a small pink lady apple before my ride. Just scoffed a dirty great ham, chicken and mixed-pepper omelette for lunch ;)

Just a bowl of oats, musili or wheatabix - get up about 50-60 minutes before I leave home - but can be eating anything upto 10 minutes before I leave.

I think you've got to get some fuel on board for the day, whether it's for the commute or for the day's work.

Tend to get a bowl of something with a decent amount of carbohydrates, fibre and maybe fruit in it, minimum of added salt - recently I've had muesli, that crunchy oat cereal stuff, bitesize shredded wheat, or porridge (not all on the same day!), plus a cup of tea.

I normally find that if I have something substantial to eat first thing I'm pretty much fuelled up for the day and don't really need lunch.

Mind you, I find myself lagging on the commute as well - but I think that's just lack of fitness!

never eat before the commute - always makes me feel bloated (esp stodgy stuff like muesli/porridge). plus, breakfast is gratis at my work from 730-830 (i roll up at 825 ;) )

yeah, it's not just any banana, it's a M&S Bananananananana.

I have bran flakes during the week. and a nice big bowl of porridge before a long weekend ride.

This morning i felt hungry though, and had a big bowl of porridge and some nutella on toast too! it's the weekend, i'm allowed it!! didn't go for a ride though, she made me do gardening! eew.

As for getting up... I wake up at 6.30am and normally leave at about 8.00am to geta decent ride in before work. unless I can't be bothered. then i leave anywhere between 9 and 9.30. it only takes me 10 mins to get in to work and I start at 10.00.

two weetabix, lightly coated with boiling water and then milk. makes it very mushy, and a cup of tea. Try to then have some Oats so Simple when i get to work, although that didn't happen today.
