Breaking Bad is the finest TV show I've ever seen. I'm so glad that I was caught up before the second half of series 5 aired. It made every episode nail-bitingly tense.
I don't understand people who can't appreciate the character of Skyler. It's a show about people who become morally compromised. At the start of the show she's already a damaged, concerned character with plenty of conflicting emotions, given what she has been through with Flynn, she finds out that she's pregnant with a baby whose father won't be around to help her with because he's dying. Through no fault of her own, she ends up being dragged through a series of life-destroying traumas which are only worsened by Walt's maze of disingenuous lies.
Dexter was a great show as well, the key word being "was". If you're watching it for the first time, consider the end of season 4 to be the canonical end of the series. The original writers left after that and the new ones had no idea where to take it, it became like a bad fan fiction. Persevered through to the (bitter) end because we'd gotten so far, but Season 7 was laughably bad.
