Hi Everyone,

A friend has been gently nudging me towards becoming a Breeze Champion and leading rides for women as she thinks I'll be a good ride leader. To become one I have to attend a course. There is a list of courses on their website, there is one in Gloucester but they state on their site:

Please only apply if you live in the area where the course is being held, or are willing to lead rides in that area.

Now I don't want to have to travel to Gloucester to lead rides, but my home falls under South Gloucestershire, so is it good enough that I'll lead rides in my home area? The other alternative is to let them know I'm interested and they'll let me know when a course is available, so does anyone have any experience how long this might take? I cannot find a contact us form and have used the form to request to be informed of a course, but there was no way of asking questions.

So mainly I was just wondering if anyone had any experience regarding becoming a Breeze Champion?

Hugs

Breeze champions and BC ride leaders come under the same umbrella now. Breeze are the ladies only bit, RL's are for all comers and we are all Unpaid volunteers now. You can train in one area and lead in another area no problem at all.

The meaning of the sentence is not crystal clear, but I see there are Breeze rides in the Bristol area.

It follows they must have leaders, so I think it's likely you will be welcome to do the course on the basis of leading rides in Bristol.

I would be inclined to register and turn up.

There's bound to be an opportunity at some point in the process to raise the ride location question.

I was told that if I retrained as a BCRL in Norwich, I would have to agree to lead a number of rides in Norwich (I think it may have been 8). Like the OP, BC run no open rides in my borough/district, only in the county seat far far away. So I declined.

Our local Breeze champions are easily contactable through Facebook. Why not ask one?
Why would a random volunteer know? Ask the HSBCUKBC organiser like I did. lovecycling@britishcycling.org.uk is their front-desk email address for recreational cycling.

Simpler answer: reject the Breeze ghetto and train as a full Ride Leader in Bristol instead. Two course dates currently on https://www.letsride.co.uk/volunteers

Oh do change the record. We all know you don't like Breeze, and it's not perfect by any means, but Archeress was asking how to find out about them, and local champions will know.
Change your own record. Breeze is a lot less than perfect and some local champions do come out with a load of rot (examples given in past threads like this), so Archeress is much more likely to get the correct answer from the organisers' email address than a random champion found on facebook.

A "random Volunteer" wouldnt know.
Given I'm not, I do know better than you how it works.
Please state the position you hold in HSBCUKBC. Your profile is not visible to the public and your advice is contrary to what I was told by them (I found the email and it says "we are only able to train people in the areas where the rides will run. Please keep an eye out on the website and get in touch if there is a course nearer to you in the future."). I know I don't understand it fully, which is why my first advice was to email them, rather than to guess like some people seem to be.

Hello @Archeress I am a recently trained Breeze leader on the south coast and already started leading my first rides!

You have to fill in a small application form, which you will have to put your address, so they will know you aren't local to the area. In my opinion, the more leaders, the merrier! Go for it if you are willing to travel to the nearest training day. Alternatively, if they think you are too far out(i doubt it) they will then host one nearer you id there is enough interest. I put a request in Oct/Nov and ended up training in February when enough interest was gathered.

All the best!
