If you get the opportunity to meet Brian take it; he's one of the sports' gentleman. I've the advantage that he's a member of my club, which helps. This is worth watching; Ned Boulting's interview with Brian starts at the 6 minute mark -

When my son went on his first club ride age 9 - setting off 5 minutes early and arriving 5 minutes after at the cafe - Brian and Tom Oldfield (who died a couple of weeks ago) spent time encouraging him. They continued to do so; this is the only photo we've got of them both

Thanks for the link to the Ned Boulting interview & personal testimony regarding one of the UK's greats. A true pioneer in bike racing.
