I've been passing the signs saying it's going to be closed from 1st Sept for 35 weeks now without the path being shut. I assume that is the time they are working on the bridge.

Yesterday I noticed an additional sign, and I assume this one relates to the path closure. Looks like it will be 9 weeks from 6th October. There is supposed to be a signed diversion over the tunnel.

Any update on the Staple Hill closure?

The sign currently reads '22 weeks' which puts the work finishing sometime around March. The road bridge and seperate little pedestrian bridge at Tewell Hill are being changed to become one crossing, so it's going to take a while. Basically, you can't use the Staple Hill tunnel at all as the path is closed from Tewell Hill to the Acacia Road entrance which is the one I use. Diversion signs are in place for you to use the Acacia Road entrance. Take care if you've never used this entrance before, it follows the cutting for a hundred yards or so but the asphalt is in poor condition and there is a feindish 270 degree turn near the bottom!. Still, some numpties on a motorbike had a go at it a few years ago:

I hate those hairpins on the ramps. Both as bad as each other. Still haven't managed to get round them when coming up them. March can't come soon enough.

I can get around the hair pins without putting my foot down on the way down, but not up. And I have the diversion sussed going in to Bristol but heading out I still manage to get it wrong .... Like you say, roll on March! And I never make it up that steep bit on the other side of the tunnel, somehow I just get the gears all wrong each time!

Yes, going down easy, going up not managed it yet. But with my new mean machine on 29 inch knobblies...maybe:smile:

They are either busy putting their diggers away or putting up fencing. I stopped and had a good look the other day and if they were also planning to do some work on the tunnel etc it certainly hasn't started yet.
