6/20 on the Canadian test, which entirely reflects the luck of multiple choice!

Not relevant. The question was "What is it commonly known as?" It doesn't matter what it SHOULD be known as, it's commonly known as the Union Jack, so the answer is correct.

Just as the common name for a machine that sucks up dust in the house is a Hoover, whether it's made by Hoover or Dyson, or whoever.

I am merely exercising the great British right to Pedantry!

As for Hoover....

Wasn't there an alleged story that the first models came out they blew air, and a passer by at an exhibition suggested that sucking would be more efficient.

So the actual concept is down to an unacknowledged stranger
