I bought a pair of TP-Link homeplugs from 7Dayshop.com (about £45) these run at 200Mbps

No problems with them. One is connected to the router which is connected to telephone broadband downstairs. The other is upstairs and has another router connected, so I have both wired connections upstairs and down and wireless on both floors (using different channels).

Ive been using netgear xe104's for the last couple of years, the bonus with these is that they have four Ethernet ports built in instead of one, so you can connect multiple devices to each. I get the full 85mbps across circuits too. Never missed a beat.

That depends on the wiring setup, which itself will be dependant on the age and size of the hotel and whether it was built as a hotel or converted. I'd say it was unlikely, though, for most of the hotels I've used.
