One ELL of a morning. Glad to hear you will heal.

Quick advice from one who has tasted tarmac before:
1. Get a decent personal injury lawyer, they all do it for free these days.
2. Start a pain diary, and include stuff about sleep disruption and mental angush as well as the obvious notes on how it hurts.
3. Photograph your injuries while they're fresh
4. Keep all the kit you had with you when you got hit, it may all be claimed for.
5. Fill your time by browsing for a better bike.
6. Embelish the story to the max when telling it down the pub.

Blimey....hope you heal OK.

If not already in CTC / BC then do get membership for when this happens next time. If no legal assistance, get a bike magazine (for the ads) and go speak to a cycle accident lawyer...

Keep a log of stuff, at least the guy's stopped. You will need a lawyer though mate... takes time - I'm 6 months into my action, and still don't know what's up with my shoulder/neck/spine.... expect it to take ages, even if clear cut.

Once fit enough, get some private physio, otherwise you'll be waiting months.

Sounds very nasty and terribly 'bad luck'

Hope you recover quickly and regain your cycling confidence quickly too.

Meanwhile, there's always a trainer ......

oooch! I've had one of those - and, like you, didn't work out what had happened until later. Hope the pain clears, and that you're back on the bike before too long.

Tynan's absolutely right, by the way. If you feel the need to speak to a CTC Councillor there's one (User) that can be reached via CC.

I have set the ball rolling with the claim but was just wanting a bit of info if anyone can help.

I am going to need to get a new bike as cycling is my only way to get to work (getting lifts for now but wont last long). if i make a claim will the money for the bike come through quickly or will i need to buy one and then claim the money back. also do some places give cheques that can only be spent on bikes?

sometimes the other party's insurer will make an interim payment to cover out of pocket costs. You will need to submit these first though (through your insurer).

Rounding up a quote for the repair of damage to your bike, and receipts for any equipment/clothing damaged beyond repair should be something you do now. If you're getting lifts, I think you can claim for that (on behalf of the person giving the lift too) although I limped to the train station instead after my off, so don't have first hand experience of that.

Talk to your solicitor, they'll be able to advise.

To confirm what John said, you will need to get a bike shop to produce a report on the damage to the bike and cost of repair. The shop you bought it from should do it for free (they should also have a record of sale etc), other shops may charge £30 for the report - this though can be reclaimed.

With regard to clothing and equipment, I compiled a list, stating approx age, where bought, cost new if still on sale, or cost of similar and submitted this.
In my case the bike was beyond economical repair and the insurer paid full price for the bike and 80% of the shop value of the other stuff - the deduction being to take account of wear and tear, and benefit of use up to that point. This payment was made within 2 weeks of my solicitor submitting the claim, which I think was pretty good.
