Broken chain. What to replace with?

I have a triban 3 and after around 100 miles I snapped the chain.

Whilst out in torrential rain, 10 miles from home, with no chain tool or spare link.

Can anyone help me choose a new chain? Are there specific sizes?

if it's an 8-speed bike, you need another 8-speed chain....if it's a 9-speed, etc.....

Not much difference between any of them really.

Buy a KMC chain, the missing link is a brilliant idea when it comes to removal or replacement.
Just do as previous poster said and make sure you get chain for the correct number of gears.

I use a topeak alien 2 the chain toool is certainly up to the job for roadside repairs.Everything else is useful too.

Another vote for KMC, and as others have said, their missing links are wonderful. I have a Park Tool CT-5 which is nice and compact but I have never used it in anger so I can't comment on its performance.

I love my Lezyne multitool it feels very strong and has lots of stuff including chain breaker and spoke key, got it about halfprice though or would have been about £40
