broken spokes...

Maybe it's just those Maddux wheels (I have never heard of them) being a bit shoddy, hopefully will be resolved, if it is an RS10 wheelset, well that is a decent entry level wheelset, I have a pair and have used and abused them for 3 years and they are still true. How heavy are you? Sorry for personal question, just that if you are a larger rider, then a minimal spoke count wheel might not be best and may be the reason to ping spokes.

Cannondale have great aftersales, I always contact them 1st, following a reply, I print it and go to the shop with it. This way there is no room for wriggling. However EBC are generally good with this sort of thing, I had a pair of aerobars fail and they replaced them on the spot (they did suggest it might have been my fault though, which it wasn't and it annoyed me a bit, but they honoured the replacement so all ended well.)

Yep large rider 6' 2 and 17.5 stone. EBC never mentioned the weight vs spoke thing - I will talk to them tomorrow about that as they measured me up for the Synapse (which I do love).
I have sent an email to Cannodale. I'll keep you posted.

Not wishing to start an argument, just propose an alternative opinion: a low spoke count isn't necessarily weaker than a high count one, provided it is properly built (which factory, particularly budget, wheels often aren't).

The difference is that you can break, perhaps, three or four spokes of a 32 or 36 spoke wheel and still ride home; lose just one from a 20 spoke job and you're walking: the lower the spoke count, the more rim each spoke "controls".

The good news is that, as Rob3rt says, both Cannondale and EBC have a great reputation for after-sales service: let us know what happens.

EBC were brilliant. Bike now all fixed.
Speaking to the mechanic he said that there was another Synapse in at the moment with the same fault.

Cannondale may have a problem batch of wheels on their hands?

I had 2 go on my giant , took back to lbs , wheel replaced within 48 hours, simple as that,some say wheels can be put together poorly at the build stage, but fair play to giant no problems !!

Bad news. Less than a week has gon by and Another spoke has gone on the back wheel. Very bad!
Even though I love the ride on my Cannondale Synapes the wheels are very poor.

Was having similar problems with my Cannondale CAAD8 with Maddux wheels . Went to wheel builder got a set of bombproof wheels from Big Al at Wheelcraft. Problem sorted.

Even though I love the ride on my Cannondale Synapes the wheels are very poor.

Been in this position ive mentioned this on other threads I contacted the company who sold me my synapse and they contacted cannondale for me who agreed to replace them which they replaced with a pair of shimano 501's which have been great and might I add they are 24/20 on the spoke count

Cannondale were great and more importantly so were my local bike shop when my bottom bracket went. Never had a problem with rs 10 wheels and I was 18 st at the r time. Great bike the synapse was too.

It looks as though you have 3 options (and I have been in this situation myself)

1. Get the supplier/manufacturer to sort it out.
2. Give up and buy new wheels yourself.
3. Get the wheel/wheels rebuilt using good quality spokes but keeping the original rims and hubs.

Option 3 is actually two options in one because you can either insist the supplier does this or take it all to somewhere you trust and cover the expense yourself.
