Brompton and Brooks

Have just put a new B17 saddle in Honey on my Brompton along with Carradice zipped roll in green and honey. Very nice.

Of course it occurs to me that the Brompton saddle had a very handy finger grip under the nose. Dashed clever. Obviously that won't transfer. Any clever solutions out there?

I have a Brooks Brompton saddle in the spares box but have never noticed this finger grip compared to the B17 on two other bikes I use.

The finger grip on the Brompton stock saddle is the main reason why I haven't fitted a Brooks saddle to my Brommie.

Any chance the finger grip can be wedged into the Brooks saddle - with a bit of 'encouragement'?

My Brooks Brompton saddle does not have that finger plate.

Is your saddle-with-a-finger-plate a Brooks?

no that's the original brompton saddle that came with the bike

I never noticed the absence of the finger grips when I put my worn in Brooks on my Brompton. I switched back because of the awkward gapping of the rails on the Brooks that didn't allow me to fit my Cateye Volt rail mounted light.

To be honest I've not noticed much difference in comfort, compared to pretty much every other saddle I've had on any bike that my couple of Brooks's far outshine, & I am more than happy sat on the standard Brommy saddle, the finger grips are an incidental bonus feature IMO.

There are solutions:
off yer bike carry handle.
Leather handle
and there's more handles on ebay.
I've seen others, but can't remember where. Good luck in your choice!

PS: I agree with shouldbeinbed (previous post), that you'll get used to whichever saddle and carrying it around. I've a Brooks saddle on mine for the last two years and prior to that I used a Waterloo Brompton hire whose saddle had the grip. But you would adjust. Unless of course you may have long (manicured) nails...
