Brompton purchase

Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of advice... Seen a brompton on EBay which seems like a good price for a six speed - what does anyone think? Any advice?

It something seems to good to be true it probably is.

I would personally be suspect of buying a bike like a brompton of an auction site like eBay..
Brompton owners are usually a particular type of person, they choose them because they specifically want a brompton above a folding bike as such I would expect them to have paperwork regarding the bikes history.

There are loads of Bromptons for sale on Ebay, all for similar prices. Should we be wary of all of them?

What bollocks, your basically saying all Ebay Brompton's are knicked. I've sold and bought bought Brompton's via Ebay loads. Just simply check the knicked Brompton register.

Wow, thanks for interpreting exactly what you wish to from what I said. It is a whole lot easier than being reasonable asking for clarity.

If you think that eBay is not widely used by people selling stolen bikes then you are as deluded as you are rude. At no point however did I state or suggest that all Brompton's on eBay are stolen. I simply suggested if something is to good to be true it usually is. I find this to be true of most things. I did not comment on the price being asked either.

People who own Bromptons generally are very fond of them as such I would expect them to have information and documentation relating to the bikes history. If they do not I would be concerned and take further steps such as checking frame numbers etc.
The fact I would be wary of buying a brompton of eBay is not even close to stating what you suggest.

I sold my first two Bromptons on eBay.

That listing reads to me like it was posted by someone genuine who doesn't have a scooby about the market for secondhand Brommies.

And for Mr H's benefit I know a several B owners who don't regard themselves as cyclists and have about as much interest in their B and its paperwork as they do in their shoes.

Can't follow the original link on this tablet without installing an app . Generally I'd be happy to buy a Brompton off eBay subject to the usual caveats - seller rating, photos, wording of the description etc. But I have seen one or two that I just thought "nicked."

(Having said that, I ended up buying a new Mezzo D9 from Winstanley's for less than the cost of a used Brompton. Whether or not that was the right choice only time will tell.)
