I received an email about Brompton hire - I don't know if some of the options are new or not. There is the (been going some time) option of Brompton dock hire, but also a short(ish) or long-term hire - either a rolling month or a full year, which includes a service. All with insurance included. An interesting concept, which is great if the prospective customer is unsure, and may well lead to more eventual sales. This could be a concept for car manufacturers to take up? I've never thought of doing this, but if I was considering a new car it would make sense to pay to hire one of the same model to try it for a few days. A friend years ago went to dealers asking for 24 hour test drive, and if they refused he 'crossed them off the list'. He eventually bought a new car from the dealer when granted 24 hour trial. If only the one he tried had the same 'fault' during the time he had it, (although they claimed there never was a fault), he wouldn't have bought a car that caught fire 6 months later!

When I bought my Brompton the dealer offered 24 hour hire. If you decided to buy they knocked the hire cost off the price of the bike. I used the hire bike to test out my commute and figure out what gear setup I wanted.

Oops, I forgot to mention: yes, that is one option if you live near a Brompton dealer. How long ago was that, just out of curiosity? I notice Brompton also has a dealer at Thetford Forest where a G-Line can be trialed - that looks appealing!
