Yesterday I took the opportunity to weigh my Brompton. Spec is 2007 superlight, originally 2 speed. I've done a DIY conversion to fit 3 sprockets, also a cartridge BB and Spa double crank with 36/52 rings and a front derailleur. With this new spec and including pump (inside the seatpin), toolkit (Temu copy) a spare inner tube inside the frame, and a handlebar phone holder, the weight is 10.52KG. I realise it's not in the 'Helium' territory, but that seems pretty good to me. ^_^

Mine will be a bit more. It's a superlight with 6-speed and rack. Weighs a lot more than my son-in-law's 2-speed all-titanium. But I don't worry that much. As I understand it, the idea is, in this order, to:
  1. Ride it.
  2. Wheel it fully assembled.
  3. Wheel it part folded with the saddle up (though I don't do that much).
  4. Drag it on the Easy Wheels.
  5. Carry it.
Weight only matters in the last two, and only comes fully into play on point 5.

Took my Carrera Intercity on the bus today to Newbury, and rode back to Reading along the Kennet.
I fully folded the bike before boarding, but have to admit it's an awkward lump to carry, get ticket from driver, then tuck it somewhere safe in the middle section of the bus. No doubt a Brommie, with its clever fold, would make the job a lot easier.
However, the ride back was fairly bumpy, with loose gravel/stones etc, and even the 20" wheels showed their limitations compared to say, a full sized MTB. This is the conundrum, or compromise really, trading off compactness and ease of carry for something less compact and more awkward, but with a better riding experience. Horses for courses I know, maybe a G line Brommie is the answer, and all I need do is win the lottery ^_^
