Wasn't sure where to put this one - as the 'Racing' section is for the pro stuff - forum mods please move this to where you feel it is more appropriate. I started here as Bromptons are mainly commuter bikes ....

But on the 21st August 2011, the Brompton World Championships give you the chance to race your Brompton around the grounds of Blenheim Palace. Main registration opens today.

I have a place and will be travelling on the coach from the factory to Blenheim and then back to Heathrow (I live about 1.5 miles from Terminal 4). Now off to look for a suitable outfit .........

I trust that bikes will start the race in a folded state and contestants will be required to refold before finishing? Is there a railway journey on the course? Failure to use the railway will be cheating.

They do start in a folded position - it is like a Le Mans style grid and you have to run to the bike and unfold before heading off. Not at the end though!

I will be using the railway before the race to get to the factory to get the coach to Blenheim so I'll count that as my rail bit ..... ;)

Did anyone else go to the worlds?

I don't have a Brompton but we went for the family bike ride after the official bits.

Some of the costumes that the riders were wearing must have taken ages to make and can't have been fun to cycle in - respect is deserved.

A good day out even if it is just for the bizarre mix of Brompton riders, time trial riders, sportive riders, charity riders and family riders.

If anyone did go an found my sunglasses can I have them back please - a long shot I know!

Yes, and a brilliant day it was! What's more, I took the train part way, camping nearby overnight on the Saturday. Cycled in to Blenheim and met up with many other owners, several from foreign parts, including Sabrina from Paris (met while in Flers for the earlier Semaine Federale). No chance of winning the special prize cycles as at least 6 minutes too slow!!!! Rode on a broken saddle, which let me down coming out of Oxford the day before, so for my return, took train part way (it doesn't go all the way!) and a service bus for the last 16 miles home: with the Brommy covered, no comment from the driver! despite two other bags, using my bus pass!
