A couple of other saddles to consider: Selle San Marco Rolls and Selle Italia Flite.

Both of which have been around for donkey's years but are still in production: they're that good!

A second hand Rolls can be had for around £25, with Flites going for a bit more; those are forum prices, eBay is generally a little more expensive.

There actually is a saddle which is as comfy as a Brooks and looks great.

I have a B17 Special in my Secteur Elite. I wasn't sure at first but decided that comfort was the most important consideration and the Special looks pretty good anyway. Also have a B17 on my Tricross.

I occasionally do sportives on a bike with a Brooks saddle, mudguards (proper ones, not clip on ones), a 32 tooth sprocket on the back and mountain bike pedals.

I am used to getting some funny looks at the start because it isn't the latest carbonfibre supperbike (it is actually titanium) but I usually have the last laugh when it starts to rain (it usually does!) and people are stuggling to push their £5,000 wonder bikes up a 1:5 hill, wearing cleats, after 80 miles.

In short, if it works for you who cares what anybody else thinks? Having tried a Brooks saddle I'm quite happy to sacrifice a little bit of weight (and maybe looks, although I like them) for extra comfort. Must be old age.

I have a 2010 Specialized Allez elite, the one that comes with a white saddle and bar tape. I've changed the bar tape to black but I'm having saddle issues. As my rides are getting longer I'm thinking of trying a brooks, in black obviously but is there a brooks which will look ok on it without being laughed at?

Nobody sees the saddle when you sit on it...you cant beat a brooks for comfort in my humble opinion...just go for it

I have the spa cycles type and in black it looks and feels good on my white bike. Much comfier than the one that it came with.

My 2010 Specialized Secteur with a Brooks B17 narrow. I think it looks fine, even had positive comments about it from other club riders, & like others have said your arse covers it when your out on it. Go for it I say!

Well it's on ready for my next ride. If I like it I will buy a black one which will at least look ok!
