Life is too short to do vocational work like teaching if your heart ain't in it.

Teaching has had the heart ripped out of the vocational element. Performance parameters changed on a whim, hyper statistical analysis, moving targets, aspirational targets, 'flight paths', value added analysis, mission creep, ever changing legislation, fear, and the forced implementation of discredited practises has left little room for vocation.

My Missus has put her foot down on the idea of me doing maritime anti piracy work off the East coast of Africa despite the £150+ big ones a year
She might change her mind if she ever fancies a break from you for a few years while you're banged up in an Indian chokey

I know. tlh is a teacher!

@Pikey, before you quit do some research on teaching in foreign countries. See if you can take a year off and and get a change. I know of folks who have taught in Japan, Singapore, etc and have enjoyed the stint. I understand the kids there have great appetite and have great respect for teachers from the UK. The preference is for those who are currently teaching. The deals alway include accommodation or allowance for accommodation/travel fare.

What gives the rule makers the qualities required to make rules?

I'd say make the change. But make sure you get your pupils to drive at 40mph in a 40mph zone, not frigging 25, on a clear road. In fact, you should lure them in and then tell them they should get bikes instead.

I think most people have realised I was being somewhat TIC...

...both of my parents were teachers. I know what the reality of the job is.

I know that. But there is always one.

No, teach them that 40 is a limit, not a target.
Yes I agree, not a speed to aim for if the road conditions do not justify it. Buuuuut I've seen the roads are clear, no pedestrians, no side streets, plenty green space on withe rside of the road, wide lane, and still not hitting 40mph.
