Once you add the the wind chill factor of going at say 15mph (dunno how fast you go) in -7, It will actually feel like -15 ish.. need to check this when i go home i have a scale thingy that works it out (sad i know).

Drops dead in amazement !!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I'm glad I'm off work. By the time I got up according to the met office temps had risen to 1.5 deg C and by the time I went out it had risen again to 2.5deg C rising to a barmy 4deg C; I knew it felt warm

-7C? I understand. I've had several of those commutes so far, this year. Coldest so far, has been -11C. One day, I wimped out, and didn't ride, as it was -14, but had a 19mph headwind. I would have ridden, if not for that wind. I guess you just get used to it after awhile. My biggest problem in those temps is keeping my hands warm. A balaclava really helps keep your face and neck warm. I ride in my outdoor work clothes, so I'm not concerned with how I look. In really cold weather, I've even worn one of those paper dust masks. If you're not breathing that cold air, your whole body will feel warmer.

Thankfully, in this weather, my commute isn't nearly as long as yours! I never can ride fast in cold, due to heavier clothes, usually windy, and I'm often riding with the studded tyres. I'm impressed that you do you fastest times in cold weather! And I DREAD the thought of repairing a puncture in those temps! Been lucky, so far!

This December has been unusually cold for us. Usually, we get a few cold days, and a few warm days. This December, it's been consistently cold...more like our typical January. Well, maybe the rest of the winter will be warmer than normal!

Hang in there! When those warm days arrive, you'll realize that you've taken the worst that winter can dish out! Gives you a "warm" feeling!

I'm doing my longest ever ride tomorrow (60 miles, up to Norfolk) and I've been watching the weather forecast like a hawk for the last few days. Looks like the wind is slightly more favourable now, a south-east wind and I'm travelling north. I tend to overheat when I cycle so I've packed lots of extra clothes in my panniers and will just wear my normal long-sleeved cycling top and NV jacket. HWMBO has lent me some thermal socks though!

jesus you're nuts ;) its so cold in my kitchen I have to wear a sweatshirt and fleece all day long even with the heating on:sad:

JUst got back on my commute from work.Still got the cough problem so I need the anti-pollution mask.

There I was waiting at the red traffic signal at the Bakers Arms, coming from Walthamstow.Had stopped a bit advanced again when a police car turns up from Whipps Cross and stops at the lights adjacent (There I am trying to look innocent).Suddenly there is the sound of a moped which was coming up from Leyton with a car close behind. So as I watch they both go straight through the red at speed and then the cop car puts on her/his blue light.Off they go after the offenders. This is why my late night commutes are so much fun.Unusual there is a cop car there though when this sort of thing happens. It's about 37 degrees out there but the wind chill was worse on leaving Waterloo.

Funnily enough I was riding in London, and thought I'm sure I recognise this road. Then I realised it was the mile end road and I'd seen it in your videos!!!

Major wind chill huh? Running the gauntlet through Epping Forest was freezing, higher speeds and not so much pedalling made for extremely cold hands. I ended up wishing for uphill.

Not sure what the temperature is in Glasgow today but feels about 10 times warmer than yesterday and not a breath of wind. Great ride in today, hardly a car on the road.

Colchester? I didn't ride that far from you then, Stowmarket to Biggin Hill, the closest was probably Sudbury, Sible Hedingham.
Stowmarket's definitely within my local radar (although I haven't been there yet). We used to live in Tonbridge in Kent and my husband regularly drove through Biggin Hill to get to work - he doesn't remember ever seeing a recumbent though!

Stowmarket is where I go on my shorter rides. from my house to Stow & back is 25 miles, on quite a nice wide road.

My coldest ride was at -5c, i got frost forming on my arms and ended up as red as i've ever been. but that was in the days when I didn't have arm warmers or a long sleeve top... these days it wouldn't be so bad.
