It will not be very sensible to use the bike today with roads covered with snow and a high of 0C forecast.

It's snowing here...and I thought it would be a good idea to go to the bike shop in short lycras and fingerless gloves. Even with longs on I'd of been cold, but I could back and my legs looked like Rudolf's nose, very very bright red!

Just back from work. So I can add Saturday legs to the list

Corn beef legs or what!!!! I look well tricky, along with the Noddy cheeks.

Longs or leg warmer, longs or leg warmers.....

Why not?

Snow is not a problem as long as you have been looking after your bike and the temp you can just about ride at any temp.

I must admit to being nervous in snow. Is it only a problem, say, if it sleets, freezes and then snows on top?

Probably cos I still get flashbacks to when I came off in ice.

Yes, absolutely. If there's frozen stuff underneath it's a bastard. Fresh snow is pretty easy to ride in. Easier than mud anyway.

It is cold today but I was out in the park on the cross bike and kept warm enough. The ground has hardened up a bit- it's not frozen, just not as waterlogged as last week so I didn't have a whole lot of bike cleaning to do.

Thanks P. But, how do you know if there is not ice underneath the snow, like early in the mornings? I sh*t myself going round corners/islands etc.

I go out and give it a try. Put the rear brake on and try and gauge how slippy it is, I do that from time to time to keep a check on the surface, and just to be sure I take it pretty easy and stay off the front brake.

If you can walk in it easily then I always think that's a good sign.

Good advice, but if you're coming home from work and haven't got that luxury of checking, I suppose it's walk and push!

That is a problem. It's only happened to me once in the last 10 years or so tho', the other few times it's snowed before I left work it's been OK.
