Picked up my giant defy advanced3 today and has fitted With ride sense, which reads candense and wheel speed, and needs to be fitted to a ant head unit ,lbs recommends bryton 20,first what experiences have you had with them, any opinions ,and what would a hmr bring to my cycling journey,at present use endamondo ,so I love the mapping and encouragement that brings

Have a look in the beginners thread - I have done a write up of my experiences with the Rider 20, co-incidentally used on my Giant Defy 3 (not the advanced though so no speed/cadence yet). In summary, it's a great little unit, similar to the Garmin Edge 200 but with the ANT+ functionality too. Only negative is that the PC connection/interface is a bit clunky.

You can import your rides into Endomondo using the TCX file format (not GPX as that doesn't include the heart rate on mine and always imports as a run!) to keep your totals up to date.

Also, I am assuming that you are referring to ANT+ rather than ANT? Bryton also do some other models, with more functions; the top of the range undercutting the Edge 800 and offering full navigation.

Hope that helps...

Many thanks ,I'm glad it will import to my endamondo,I think I will do the right thing and get one!

Check out Cycling Weekly this week, you get a free Rider 20 with a 12 month subscription. Costs £66 every 6 months.
It's a decent GPS but might not match your needs.

I have a Rider 20 and really like it - great value for money. Agree that the interface with PC is a bit clunky though, but no big deal IMHO. Bryton's website is improving and I can import my rides into strava. So pretty good really.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Am i right in thinking that the 20 does not have the breadcrumb trail mapping ? I was looking into them as a way to upload a route for sportives etc and the review says you cant do that .
If its true and you need that ability i would pay a bit more and get the garmin 200.

got to the bike shop today, and had my Bryton fitted they actually did a rider 40 for me with the hrm,had a ride back through the rain,8miles slow with the wife then 10 miles at speed the little computer is spot on,Cadence metre is the business for me ,all the info you could ever need,
came home and set up the bridge and as per some complaints about the software, it did down load to my mac,and was able to upload to endamondo by gpx, and mentioned in a previous thread by cbs ,i had to change the exercise to cycle from running but easy to use, loving it

Just bought a Garmin GSC-10 cadence/speed sensor and fitted it today and can confirm that it happily pairs with the Rider 20 as a "dual" unit and sends both cadence and speed info at the same time. Tomorrow morning will be the proper test on a long ride and I'll report back then.

BTW, Berties, if you export as TCX rather than GPX, you won't need to change the exercise type and it will also import the heart rate info into Endomondo.

Just back from a ride and it all works fine - I could see my cadence as I rode and it has graphed it along with HR, etc. Now I just need to work out what it means ^_^ My average over 24 miles this morning was 79...

I'm not sure whether it uses the speed sensor when riding or whether it prefers the GPS signal, but if you spin the wheel while stationary it registers the speed so I know that it is working. Anyway, the Garmin unit cost the same as the Bryton one, so I won't have lost out.
