I have just scored a cheap BSO mountain bike off fleabay. It is a Universal "Epic Collection", (who thinks up these names lol) which exactly the same as any other Universal but with a different paint job. I deliberately avoided anything with suspension, which on BSO's simply adds lots of weight and doesn't do much more. Where I live I have a better than evens chance of getting it nicked, and I can only keep one bike indoors, a privilege reserved for my Trek, so it will live in my shed. The roads around Harlow are atrocious, the only thing worse are the cycle tracks so it will be interesting to see how long the Universal lasts. From previous experience it will need some new brake callipers to replace the pressed steel ones and probably a decent bottom bracket to replace their plastic like bearing cups and bearings. Do that and it should make a useable pub/shop/town and mess about bike. I will also be able to tow my trailer when I go fishing, something I cannot do with my Trek.

There's nowt wrong with a good old MTB that does it all except shout "steal me" from out side the shop.

There's a steady demand for fishing bikes here in the North East.

Anything ridable will do and absolutely no maintenance is carried out.

My mate who deals in secondhand bikes tells me he's seen them used until the frame rusts through.
