hi all,

All moved into new home and getting BT fitted tomorrow so still working out best options!

Our main room is at the back, we have a small room at the front with the phone line in, we want the tv box in the back room but I don't really want wires being run round, also got me thinking two boxes would be good. Could I get them to fit in the small room and buy a s cond BT box for the other room, would I need Internet and Arial? If so could I just buy one of those socket extensions which I may need anyway to extend it?
Would I get all the same channels and features?

Thanks

You get one BT YouView box which has to be wired to the new BT Home Hub via Ethernet Cable (for the Internet based stuff) and also needs an Aerial in for the normal TV channels.

The Home Hub is then wired to to the bit where the phone line comes in - so you may need to discuss where the Engineer can place the Home Hub.

You can get an additional box (either non recording or recording) from BT at extra cost and this too has to be connected to the Home Hub via Ethernet cable and needs an aerial connection.

(The installer may be just a sub-contractor with nothing to do with BT so you need to speak to BT if you want to change the package).

No option other than to hardwire it in , also it must be cat5e (or above) cabling from the HomeHub to the TV box and an aerial lead to the box.
The only way to get around this is to have the telephone junction box moved but expect a mahoosive bill for doing that.

Although you can use homeplugs/powerline for the internet connection. This uses your mains electricity cable as an ethernet cable. You still need an aerial nearby though.

Strange it works perfectly for me - but I don't use the VT branded ones. Do you know what speed yours are rated at? Mine are 500 Mbps.

Ours worked on the old BT box for years but the new box needs a far faster connection to be able to watch the internet channels (We only changed the box to be able to watch the MotoGP on BT sport)

Cheers guys, I'll discuss it with him when he gets here. There are cables everywhere so may be someth already in?
Think I'll use the power lines adopters rather than get even more cables lol
If I bought a second box from eBay rather than get the extra box package would it work the same or just normal you view, for example will I get the extra channels unless I change the package ?

As far as I am aware the BT box is specific to you (registered IP address) and will not work anywhere else, anti theft security built in.

They do work, but you obviously you don't get the premium content like BT Sports. This is the case even if BT is your internet provider and you can get BT Sport on your pc / tablet.

Cheers,

I just thought, what I could do is use the original box in the second room and use the eBay bought one in the original smaller room, therefore getting the additional content in the preferred room without extra cable, and normal yet recordable you view in second room

Gee this takes some thinking about lol

Done some digging, apparently the extra channels will work sometimes but not always so BT play it safe and don't support them

I've found some power line adapters which are also wifi boosters, think these will work well, I'll just buy a decent you view recordable box and watch extra channels in the smal room if needs be
