Myself and Tashwife are off to Budapest next month for 4 full on days, leaving Tashboy and Tashgirl home alone. What are the must see and do things there from anybody that has been. Anything that surprised you that you'd recommend, and likewise anything that should be avoided?
We both love wandering, poking about looking at architecture and eating and drinking.

We were there last year.

Would recommend an evening cruise on the Danube, the main park, and associated museums etc. Synagogue and Jewish history is essential I think. No disappointments, all the famous sights are good. Public transport excellent.

A particular highlight was taking the train to Szentendre which as well an all round nice place, features a truly memorable museum of marzipan sculptures(!) You can also get a boat there.

Not sure if the above will help, but it is a list of the places/activities which I researched when we had four days in Budapest a couple of years ago

Well, write it down boy ......
The Hospital in the Rock. Under Buda castle. Used as a hospital and then a nuclear bunker, very well laid out. You have to go on a guided tour as it's a maze underground, but every other one is English speaking. Best bit was getting to sound the air raid siren at the end!
