turns out the Vdara Hotel in Las Vegas has the same kind of problem. Would any of you care to guess who designed it?

Looks like he's designed the new Etihad Campus at Manchester City's ground. So when Motty announces that "Sergio Agüero is literally on fire", he may not actually be talking his usual sh1te.

This sentence tells you quite a lot about what's currently wrong not just with architecture but with a whole swathe of design professions.

I note on his Wikipedia page, he says that "Architecture is a dialogue with the forces of life" - well, I guess trying to fight the sun could come under this heading...

The architect has a track record of creating buildings that burn. His Vdara hotel in Las Vegas, with a similarly concave form, focused sunlight onto the pool terrace in 2010, hot enough to melt loungers and singe guests' hair. The glass has since been covered in non-reflective film.

Also, another priceless statement was that he didn't realise it was going to get so hot, maybe 36 degrees but not 72 degrees. Presumably the incident where his hotel set the guests' hair on fire wasn't dramatic enough to stick in the mind when looking at the design of the latest building and err on the side of caution.

Apparently it takes 7 years to train to be an architect. I would propose that they should slightly amend the curriculum to include a module on "how not to design buildings that set sh!t on fire. Or if you do, how not to do it twice".
