This made me smile and brought back memories of O level physics. Obviously, the architects hadn't considered the effect of a reflective parabolic curved surface on light rays bringing them to a focal point:blush:
It's a problem that's rarely designed in.

Actually they did..

THE developers of the Walkie Talkie tower in the City today said they had been aware of the risk of its curved glass acting as “a giant magnifying glass” — but thought there would not be a problem. A concentrated beam of sunlight dubbed “the City’s solar death ray” has been blamed for melting parts of a parked Jaguar car and dazzling passers-by. A spokesman for the joint developers Land Securities and Canary Wharf today admitted: “We did do solar analysis and modelling but it wasn’t picked up.”

I'm just guessing but I am sure that they would have used computer simulations to model the effects of solar radiation inside the building, but perhaps not the effects externally. Funnily enough, this kind of problem has cropped up with acoustics as well. Ralph Erskine's Ark building in Hammersmith has sections of concave cladding on the lower floors. The net result was that noise from the overground District Line tube trains was massively concentrated and projected into a few streets. The locals were not at all happy.

there are some huge concrete walls on the south coast I think that were a pre radar early air raid warning system that worked by concentrating the sound in the same manner. Apparently very effective over many miles according to Coast or similar round britain TV show.

Denge sound mirrors. @User10571 is our CycleChat expert analyst. It is a nice ride to the location, which can include 'PLUTO' and other such wartime interests.

I'm not suprised the doormat damaged the lemon, it probably complained about him smoking indoors (lemon) and the doormat thought i'm not going to let people walk all over me and shoved the lemon back into the shop - which was lemonentry.
