It's extremely horrible when you get burgled. The bastard(s) who burgled me took a Nike sports shoe box which they must have thought contained coins or something valuable. When the bastard(s) saw it contained 'worthless' athletic medals, including those of all the marathons and race wins I'd had in the preceding 5 years, it would have been thrown into the canal. I'd love to find out who'd done it and my next door neighbour, a CID officer, assured me he'd be caught but to date, 17 years later, it's still not been accounted for.

They slipped the lock on the front door and stole my bike, my laptop, my bag and my wallet. Thankfully, no-one else's stuff was taken.

This is such a pain. As anyone who has read my thread about unemployment knows, I'm only temping at the moment and that's not even full-time. I simply don't have the money to replace anything right now. I'm going to have to wait an age for the insurance company to pay out (if it does!) so I'm without laptop and without bike for the forseeable future. They've taken away two of the things I use in my free time! So gutted.

Badger the insurance company, and explain why you need help quickly - e.g. primary transport etc. Any good one should sort you out quickly. Oh and look at upping the door security.

How well do you know everyone else? Sorry to be suspicious but that's odd?

I actually live with very good friends and my girlfriend so I'm not suspicious at all in that regard. I think my stuff was taken because it was easy to get to since all my gear wasn't in my bedroom; my bike is the best of the three bikes in the house and my bag just happened to be nearby as they left the house. I forgot that my girlfriend's near-dead laptop was also taken, but that was almost a blessing in disguise.

Sorry to rant but things haven't been going my way of late and this really sticks in the craw.

Hi - if you are short and not fussy I can lend you a bike til you're up and running again

That's very kind but I've just found out there might be a spare Dawes in my sister's garage so I could go and fetch that at some point.

At the moment I'm just watching the football and stewing!
