Thank you for your e-mail, which has been forwarded to us by our Customer Service Team we are sorry that you have had reason to report one of our drivers.

The safety of our passengers and equally other road users is of the utmost importance so it is saddening to read that clearly this particular driver has let his standard fall far below what we expect.

From the information that you have supplied the driver concerned has been identified and will be interviewed about the incident, he will then be dealt with in accordance with our disciplinary procedure, his driving will also be assessed. The driver will also be reminded that we do not tolerate this type of behaviour from our drivers.

We are aware of the stigma of bus drivers and we are working hard to remove or retrain those few drivers that cause it.

Please accept our sincere apologies on behalf of this driver and we would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

If we can be of any further assistance then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

"the stigma of bus drivers"? Sounds positively medieval.

actually many bus drivers are perfectly respectful of other road users...even us cyclists...this guy however wasn't. So hopefully he will get the message that his driving and behaviour were unacceptable, and he will go about his job in a safer more respectfull manner like the majority of his colleagues.

I've always found bus drivers to be amongst the most considerate of professional drivers. In a former existence I worked for a municipal bus organisation and we did take reliable reports of bad driving fairly seriously.

While not doubting thier sincerity, I am sure I have read that letter posted on CC before. I wonder if there is a form response to these incidents.

Yes it is a standard letter format I am sure...they must have their legal advice and that is fair enough. In this case I wasn't physically hurt, although it was very close. The reason I complained was because of his bad driving, but also because of his attitude and verbal abuse, which was 'colorful'. Frankly had he lent out of his window and apologised instead of being aggressive that would have been that. He just needs to be made aware that he doesn't own the road, and that my safety is important, alongside other road users. Just because I am on a bicycle does not mean he can drive as he did or behave as he did.

Hopefully he will get a talking to and next time he sees a cyclist he will adopt a safer and more courteous attitude.
