In Ipswich there seems to be about five bus companies and I treat buses like I treat horses - they're bigger than me and might be a bit blinkered.

Had a reply from Arriva and have organised a visit to the local depot with the Depot Manager and Risk Manager on the 16th Jan.

This is absolute rubbish! Employers always trot it out but it really is bunkum, with no basis in law, and should be seen as a 'red flag' showing that the employers in question may not take your complaint seriously.

I know, I know. But as the police were'nt involved so this is not a legal battle and would be contsrained by company policy. If it went to court obvioudsly it would be a differnt matter.

That's an unusual one. I wonder if that is the experience of most cyclist.

I wouldn't say it's anything like the majority of bus drivers, but this happens to me pretty regularly in London.

I agree, it does happen. Rarely to me in London or the Sticks, but it does happen.

In the post you replied to I was really putting an alternative view to that posed by Baz, who said that the majority of bus drivers did this. I find that proportion wholly inaccurate.

Of those in a position to pass me just before pulling or turning left, I should say that fewer than 5% do this - and many of those are entirely safe. They might elicit a hollering from a Rhyl vigilante, but they don't make me swerve or brake. I quite like making life easy for buses. It feels somehow nicer.

But I agree it does happen and when it carves close it can be irritating or disquieting.

For me, it's between the two - maybe 10-20% of the time. I accept in many cases it's just a question of the driver misjudging my speed, and thinking they had enough time to complete an overtake without problem, and I don't make a drama of it, but it is poor driving all the same.
