i slapped a bus today, and i dont feel good about it.

Basically i was tanking along up lloyd george avenue heading into cardiff city from the waterfront. I was in the middle of the bus / bike / taxi lane.
It is a really wide road with a big wide lane on the right for regular traffic.
there is never much on it at 8am so i belt it down there at full tilt sprint.

so this bendy bus decides i'm not going fast enough and pulls a close pass into my lane.

i am suitably shi**ing myself as the back end of his 50 ton bus moves past me with about 4 feet clearance.

and guess what, he is approching a red light.

so i close pass him as the lights turn to green and give a good slap on the drivers side mirror.

was i wrong?

I feel your frustration... Thankfully we are spared such ridiculous vehicles in my parts. I guess I would just describe it as non-constructive chastisement. Educate don't irritate...

Just chalk it up as experience for the next time (which there hopefully won't be...).

seriously I think you city commuters should get some grenades in for when this happens, seems to happen all the time and be a monumental pita

I think the londoners should follow one inhabitant of your fine city and have wheel attachments like this fine lady has on her vehicle -

I remember the good old days with the emergency cutout switches. simply pull the switch and stop the bus until the driver gets out and resets itVery satisfying!

Four foot clearance in London would be a luxury!

Phone Cardiff Bus and complain.

I had a similar issue on Newport Road with one of the new Park & Ride buses and called the Council who, in turn called the operator (Veolia if I remember correctly), A guy from the company called me back very quickly to hear my story and called back again later that day to say he'd identified the driver who would be spoken to in the morning.

Generally the Cardiff Bus drivers are the most courteous of the local operators - Veolia are noticeably the worse. There are, however, some cretins that can't seem to compute having to drive out of the bus lane briefly to give room to a cyclist. I always have words when this happens if I can catch them before I have to turn off the main drag.

I once kept punching a bus until it stopped pulling into me. Had I not I would definitely have been hit - it's not the sort of thing I would make a habit off.

I had my camera a week later.

I slapped a bus, and I liked it
I hope first group don't mind it
It passed so close
That wasn't right
Don't mean I'm itching for a fight
I slapped a bus and I liked it
I liked it

She wasn't a Londoner. She was from Norfolk... or somewhere up that way.

As a self-respecting former Londoner, I'd never have scythes like that on my hubs.

There's something very vulgar and provincial about it.

A motorcycle chain can be so much more persuasive.

Always take the number of the bus and which company operates it. Ring them and complain. A couple of complaints about the same driver and there are 2 likely outcomes. Either the driver will be officially warned by his employer and he will change his ways. Or they will sack him for continued complaints. Either way, it's one more dangerous driver off the road.....and possibly, an innocent cyclist saved from being crushed.
