That's pretty much completely useless as an answer, isn't it?

Sure is, I should add a zero- quality caveat to my signature

I love my Kindle but decided when I got it not to do Amazon's evangelising for them, not even their affiliated programs is just reward.

I'm also an obsessive collector of books, I guess I see the kindle as a sort of of literature iPod - it's never going to replace the thrill of loud love music; it's just another delivery, method.

I have a huge collection of books taking up room, thinking of selling as there are some collectors books and I can't see my daughter reading them now she has a kindle and an iPad.

They are transferable if you have 4 kindles in the family just have one user account, buy one and it can be read on all. Also software is available to rip a book off the kindle to email to another.

I wonder how long e-ink screens will remain relevant - I love my Kindle because I can read it without my glasses on, but the same now goes for retina screen on my ipad.

As long as they can be read in sunlight, I'd say. I still marvel at how the Kindle screen is the same in direct sunlight, whereas my mobile screen is unreadable in the same conditions.

The saga continues.

Replacement screen order got cancelled (alibaba web site) by the seller in china. Sent Kindle off to a UK person (ebay but is someone on the Amazon site advertising repairs).

Prompt response, picked it up from the sorting office, switched on, cracked screen again - the Kindle hadn't survived the post back from the repair ! Argh.

Argh indeed - I'm glad I decided to buy a tablet computer and settle for reading indoors!

Did you get one of the newer Kindles? I got my Kindle 3 (Keyboard) when it was launched & it's never had a problem despite being battered about for coming on for 3 years. Others I know with the keyboard version have had no problems either. Just wondering if the Kindle 4s were a bad design?

Heard quite a few complaints and breakages with the Kindle 3 (the kindle 3 is two years old in the UK). Mine's still fine though.

Love the Kindle myself. I can buy new books anywhere I am, and carry them about, and read them on my phone. Wouldn't ever go back.

Kindle 3 Keyboard is now back in one piece - the 'repairer' packed it much better this time. It's gone straight into a sturdy protective cover !!

My son will be happy as the case came with a reading light !

Did you ever get it going again? There are lots of suggestions online involving holding buttons down for extended periods to cause a hard reset.

It's about 30 seconds, it does take a long time to reboot on top, but I've had it freeze twice.
