Butlins rocks

I'm staying at the Skegness Butlins for their folk Big Weekend event. It's my first experience of Butlins and I'm favourably impressed. The food is reasonable if unadventurous and the accommodation is on par with Travelodge but when combined with high quality folk acts like Cara Dillon, The Peatbog Faeries and Chumbawumba amongst others, the package becomes exceptional value. There was even steak pie on the menu!

Happy happy happy especially since I'm heading home this afternoon and will miss Seth Lakeman

I haven't stayed at a Butlins since a school trip back in the early 70's. I did my cycling proficiency course and life saving (in the swimming pool) there as I didn't fancy the endless ball games and other silliness that were the other school trip options.

Every so often I go to Spring Harvest which is a huge Christian conference held at Minehead and Skeggy Butlins for three weeks around the Easter school holidays. Although the food and accomodation are bearable for the five days that each group does I don't think I would like to like to spend a weeks holiday there though.

They've moved on from their Tub Thumping days and are a very entertaining band with insightful and entertaining lyrics. I was very surprised by their metamorphosis when I saw them live for the first time a couple of years ago.
