butterfly bars on a hardtail

riding along the leeds/liverpool canal at parbold today ,i think i saw a guy on a hardtail with butterfly bars, something i personally havnt seen before,......so , has anyone fitted butterfly bars to a hardtail,and what was it like.

He may have been on a mtb, but canal towpaths are just one of many environments where you see mtbs...... In TRUE guise they are no doubt very comfy for a bit of long distance trekking. Butterfly bars would make sense in that scenario. Not sure I'd fit them to ride off any big drops or jumps though.

I've had them on a mtb done up as a tourer and they're very comfy and offer several hand positions. The problem is all the controls are in the narrrow part of the bars - which is not where you want you're hands when things are hairy.
