Hi All, got a budget of between 6 and 7 hundred quid for once in my life and would like to purchase a good quality hybrid for commuting and long runs at weekends. hoping to do c2c next year as well, can do between 50 and 75 miles on weekend run and between 10 and 20 upwards every other day commuting to work. I already looked at claude butler urban 600 but have been talked out of it. need more gears and spec. please advise>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..

Good deals on Specialized Sirrus at the mo if wanting a fast flat bar

Comp in budget, with a double groupset http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/sirrus-comp-2013-hybrid-bike-ec030743

Or a Trek 7.5?

Or a Giant Rapid 2 (more gears being a triple)

Do you not have any interest in drop bars for the longer distances, one that is rack capable. Budget should get you a 2013 Giant Defy 2 for example in the sale if you hunt. No worries, if only wanting flat bars

Happy shopping

You can buy a good bike for a £6-700.
I suggest that you have a more structured approach to this.
What do you need the bike for? You have said, you already have a mountain bike that you can use for rough forest track etc.
So what you need a bike is for road use. That is a road bike. If you ride 50-75 miles, you will be better off with a road bike.
Do you have any views on flat bar?
What kind of gears would you prefer? If you are already riding that much, perhaps you do not need a triple. Compact would be sufficient.
For that money you may be able to get a second hand Carbon Road bike from e bay.

I can't think of much else with the hydraulic discs. Halfords do a boardman hybrid, but mechanical discs I think

£900 rrp, so it's not inexpensive for a flat bar but yeah and well specced, light too at 10kg with disc brakes

I hunted long and hard for disc brakes, carbon forks and a British company....I got mine virtually unused from eBay for £450

There is this: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/2014.giant.roam.1/14992/66580/#specifications

Hydraulic disc equipped, although what you essentially have there, is a Revel MTB on slicks. You could put a narrower tyre on to help it go a bit faster, but it would handle most stuff except proper MTB territory.

There won't be many (if any) road hybrids with hydro discs at that price, they will be mechanical disc, which is still better than rim brakes in the wet. If you're after a bike to do long distances on the road, then a fast Hybrid like the Rapid or a drop-bar road bike is the way to go.

Realistically few in addition to the whyte r7 series, all come with hydraulic discs. They are fast hybrids, especially on slicker tyres. Mine now wears marathon + as will become a London commuter beast in the new year.

There is the ridgeback flight 02 too, hydro discs, carbon fork. Now in budget on sale

Also the trek 7.4 but no carbon fork

Personally I wouldn't want suspension on a road going n+1 to even do the commute of 10 miles
